Artist Statement

Drawing from such diverse artistic traditions as surrealism, minimalism, and pop art, my work reflects my evolving search for purity in realistic figure painting. To create my paintings, I identify and isolate the essential elements in a given scene - removing layers from the chaotic, fluctuating world to reveal my internal vision.

I refine the subject to its purest form to heighten its expressive power, but like a partially told story, much is left to the viewer’s imagination. The complex, subdued emotions of the figures I paint are conveyed within bold, simple arrangements of form and space.

I deliberately manipulate this contrast between simplified visual content and enigmatic emotional content to create a restrained sense of drama. My paintings capture the potential of the moment - emphasizing beauty, emotion, and mystery while maintaining a strong clarity of presentation.
